One common pricing method, especially used in website development, is hourly pricing. In this article, we will explore this approach and how it can provide transparency and flexibility for both clients and website creators.

Hourly Pricing

Hourly pricing is one of the most common ways of pricing a website. In this model, the client pays the service provider for the hours spent designing, developing, and maintaining the website. The hourly rate determines how much the client pays for each hour of work. In our case, the hourly rate is 80€ + VAT.

Transparency and Flexibility

Hourly pricing offers a number of advantages for both clients and website creators. Firstly, it ensures a high level of transparency. Clients can clearly see how many man-hours were spent on the different phases of the project. This helps clients to understand where their money is going and to ensure that the project is progressing as desired. Recording the hours worked on a common spreadsheet allows real-time monitoring.

Secondly, hourly pricing offers flexibility. Clients can tailor the project flow and budget to their needs. If you find that the hours spent start to approach the budget limit during the month, you can stop the work and discuss additional costs or project limits. This will give you more control over the project progress and budget.

Total cost

When considering a website on an hourly basis, it is important to estimate the total cost realistically. An hourly rate and an estimate of hours are good starting points, but it can be difficult to fully anticipate all the hours required in advance. The scope and complexity of the project can vary widely, which will affect the final cost.

Our guarantee for the price-estimate

On average, our price estimates are almost inevitably accurate. However, there are usually additions made during the project, such as the "pre-order" add-on to the spreadsheet above, which was customised as an additional job after the project started. For this add-on we gave an estimate of additional man-hours, 5-6 man-hours, which was correct.

Summary

Hourly pricing is a good way to bring transparency and flexibility to website design. Clients know where their money is going and can regulate decisions about the project within their budget. Logging hours worked on a shared spreadsheet allows the project to be tracked in real time and allows changes to be made if necessary.

Overall, hourly pricing gives both clients and website creators control and flexibility during the project. It's a good option when you want to make sure your website meets your needs and budget.
